What is Void Vixens?

Concept

Void Vixens is my official OP creations of heroines that I want to create!

Void Vixens is aimed to be a collectible card project that consists of unique heroines battling against their infamous nemesis’s.

Each are specialized and crafted to fit within a fantasy / spooky / alternative pinup style!

Origin

Legends in Panel started from me getting an iPad Pro with Procreate & being finally being able to actually draw on the screen using an Apple Pencil. I started all my digital artwork on an old MacBook Pro, on the software Pixelmator; while literally only using the damn mousepad as my means of illustrating. It sucked! A lot!

So once I had the ability to actually use my hand to draw again, I decided to use what I was learning and start making art. I started by wanting to redo my Pixel Horror artworks into a style that I liked better (the one you see from the Legends in Panel illustrations). While I was working on the artwork, I was running multiple ideas in my head. Then it clicked.

I now had the ability to draw my favorite characters in the way I actually wanted (I had done attempts on the old MacBook but it was absolute hell). From there, instead of redoing my old pixel art, I wanted to start an entirely different art project entirely. Thus spawning the idea to make fan art of my favorite characters throughout all my favorite medias!

Visual Style & Influences

The Void Vixens series is a fusion of alternative pin-up aesthetics and classic mid-century glamour, drawing direct inspiration from iconic figures such as Betty Grable. This foundation is reinterpreted through a modern lens, blending vintage femininity with darker, more expressive themes rooted in horror, fantasy, and alternative culture.

My visual style combines elements of traditional pin-up—such as confident posing, stylized body language, and emphasis on feminine form—with contemporary influences including gothic fashion, alt subcultures, and character-driven storytelling. Each character integrates a mix of historical and modern clothing, ranging from classic silhouettes to edgy, alternative designs, creating a balance between timeless beauty and individuality.

A major influence behind this work is my appreciation for strong female representation across both fiction and nonfiction. The Void Vixens are not just visual pieces—they are expressions of empowerment, identity, and presence. Each character embodies confidence, autonomy, and personality, pushing beyond passive portrayals often associated with traditional pin-up art.

At its core, this series reflects my passion for feminism and the celebration of women in all forms—powerful, complex, and unapologetically expressive. By merging horror elements, alternative aesthetics, and pin-up traditions, I aim to create a cohesive style that honors the past while redefining it through a bold, modern perspective.

Narratives & Meaning

Void Vixens is built around the idea of rising heroines—powerful women who emerge in response to overwhelming threats, standing against forces that seek to destroy worlds, realities, or entire universes.

My personal favorite character throughout all media is “Jill Valentine”. Shes such a perfect example of powerful female characters and I love her so much!

Each character represents a moment of resistance: a figure who rises when the odds are stacked against them, embodying the essence of a superhero forged through adversity.

At its core, the narrative follows the classic arc of hero versus nemesis—a central villain or force that disrupts balance and pushes each heroine to her limits. However, rather than focusing on a single protagonist, Void Vixens expands this concept into a collective. These characters are not isolated saviors; they are part of a larger force, a group of heroines who come together, combining their strengths, identities, and experiences to confront chaos as a unified front.

The “void” represents both the unknown and the overwhelming—darkness, destruction, and existential threat. In contrast, the “vixens” symbolize defiance, resilience, and power. Together, the title reflects a duality: beauty and danger, vulnerability and strength, individuality and unity. Beyond its surface as a heroic narrative, Void Vixens is also about empowerment and representation. Each heroine is designed to reflect confidence, agency, and presence—challenging traditional portrayals by placing women at the center of action, conflict, and resolution. Their battles are not just physical, but symbolic of overcoming fear, adversity, and limitation.

Ultimately, Void Vixens tells a story of unity in strength—where individual power becomes something greater when shared. It is about rising, resisting, and standing together against whatever threatens to consume the world.

Design Process

The Void Vixens series is designed with both visual impact and functionality in mind, created to exist within a collectible format similar to trading card games such as Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, and Pokémon Trading Card Game.

As a fan of these systems, my goal was to develop characters that feel as though they belong within a playable universe while still functioning as strong standalone illustrations for prints and posters.

Each character begins with concept development, where I establish their role, personality, and potential function within a card-based system (such as a class type, ability set, or narrative role). This ensures that every design is not only visually distinct but also conceptually purposeful, as if it could translate directly into gameplay mechanics. From there, I move into sketching and composition, focusing heavily on dynamic posing and silhouette. Because these designs are intended for card formats, readability is essential. I prioritize strong shapes, clear focal points, and expressive gestures so that each character remains recognizable even at smaller scales. The rendering process emphasizes high-detail linework, contrast, and stylization to match the intensity and clarity seen in collectible card art. I design each piece so it can function within a framed layout (such as a card border), while also allowing it to stand alone as a full illustration for posters, prints, or merchandise. This dual-purpose approach influences how I handle composition, ensuring that key visual elements remain centered and impactful. Costume and visual design play a major role in the process.

Each Void Vixen incorporates a mix of alternative, fantasy, and feminine fashion elements to reflect both individuality and thematic cohesion. I intentionally vary hairstyles, silhouettes, and accessories to keep each character unique while maintaining a consistent visual identity across the series.

Overall, my process is driven by the intersection of illustration and system design. Void Vixens is not just a collection of characters—it is a world built with the intention of being experienced, whether through gameplay, visual storytelling, or collectible art.

Why The Void Vixens Name?

The name fits beautifully with a concept of powerful vixen heroines battling against void villains.

I wanted something that rolled off the tongue and would work well as a card game design!

The Future!

I plan on making quite a few different vixens of different unique types. Imagine each vixen as a specific type of being that is powerful in that element alone. This allows for each Vixen to be entirely unique from each other!

I also plan on making a nemesis for each Vixen (dont in the same card design format)!

The ultimate plan in the future is to make them into a fully collectible card game (just without it being a typical table-top card game). *More of the collectible side* This means that at some point in the future you will be able to buy packs that will have Vixens, Nemesis’s, & even locations cards. This is going to be my project on “Blind Boxes”! Can’t wait to show more in the future!

Void Vixens Portfolio Breakdown

The Celestial

Stella

Stella comes from the distant future, where the universe is mapped and fully explorable! She’s a rebel against a galactic order, that gets kidnapped and thrown out into open space on a withering moon. Leaving her for dead, her assailants flee from the moon. After suffering a brutal and terrible death, she gets resurrected as a celestial being from a hidden source. The source awakens her as a means to destroy the planet devourer, a tyrant old god that gorges on planets. With her new powers, she seeks out revenge against her adversaries and tries to bring balance to her galaxy.

The Mage

Vyrella

Once a devoted apprentice, studying under a powerful master mage. During her training, she discovered a rare and dangerous source of power—magic drawn from the planet’s core itself. This ancient energy responded to her naturally, elevating her abilities beyond anything her master had ever achieved. Driven by jealousy, her mentor struck her down. Left for dead, she instead fused to the planet’s core refusing to let her fade. She then rises again, no longer a student, but something far more dangerous. Her purpose is clear: to confront the man who betrayed her and prove that the power he feared was never his to control.
